NASS Recognizes National Voter Registration Day 2025

Washington, D.C. — In collaboration with members of the elections community, the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) is pleased to recognize September 16, 2025, as National Voter Registration Day (NVRD). Each year, NASS supports this nonpartisan effort, which encourages eligible citizens across the country to check their voter registration status, register to vote and become more aware of the overall election process.

“National Voter Registration Day is a great opportunity to check with state and local election officials for your trusted information,” said Michael Watson, NASS President and Mississippi Secretary of State.

The NVRD Steering Committee is led by former NASS President and Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon and Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams. Both members serve as the Chief Election Official for their respective states.

“It’s an off year for national elections, but what happens at the local level matters just as much. National Voter Registration Day is the perfect time to register to vote or update your registration, to make sure you can exercise your political power,” stated Simon.

“It’s never too early to start thinking about your voting plan, which starts with getting registered,” said Adams. “Registering to vote has never been easier. If you’re eligible to vote, take a few minutes today to register and ensure your voice is heard.”

The association’s #TrustedInfo hashtag will be used throughout social media to emphasize the importance of checking with state and local election officials as the trusted sources for election information.
