NASS Recognizes National Voter Registration Day 2026

Washington, D.C. — The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) joins election officials and organizations across the country in recognizing today, September 15, as National Voter Registration Day (NVRD). The annual nonpartisan effort encourages eligible Americans to register to vote, review and update their voter registration information, and learn more about the election process. 

“National Voter Registration Day is an important reminder for eligible Americans across the country to register to vote or check their registration,” said NASS President and Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs. “Taking a few minutes now can help ensure you’re ready to exercise one of our most fundamental rights – the right to vote. And whenever you have questions about registration or voting, your state and local election officials are your trusted sources for accurate information.” 

NASS has a resolution supporting National Voter Registration Day, which complements the association’s recognition of September as National Voter Registration Month. Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon and Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams serve as bipartisan co-chairs of the National Voter Registration Day Steering Committee. “

Registering to vote is where participation in our democracy begins,” said Secretary Simon. “National Voter Registration Day brings people and organizations together around a simple, nonpartisan goal: making sure every eligible voter has the information and opportunity to get registered. Whether this is your first election or you’ve been voting for decades, today is a great day to check your registration and make sure you’re ready to make your voice heard.” 

“Being ready to vote starts with being registered,” said Secretary Adams. “National Voter Registration Day is an opportunity to check your registration status, make any necessary updates and learn the rules and deadlines in your state. Election officials across the country are ready to help eligible Americans take that important first step toward participating in our elections.” 

Throughout the 2026 election cycle, NASS’s #TrustedInfo2026 initiative encourages voters to turn to state and local election officials for accurate and reliable election information.
