NASS Celebrates National Voter Registration Month Throughout September

For Immediate Release
August 29, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Since 2002, the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) has designated September as National Voter Registration Month, aiming to motivate eligible Americans to register to vote, check their voter registration status or update their voter registration details.

“The right to vote is one of the greatest civil liberties in our country and registering to vote is the first step toward successfully participating in the electoral process. Since voter registration requirements and procedures differ by state, contact your state or local election officials for guidance during National Voter Registration Month,” said Michael Watson, NASS President and Mississippi Secretary of State.

To locate your election official or to find your state’s specific voter registration requirements, visit CanIVote.org, a nonpartisan resource developed by state election officials, and maintained by NASS. CanIVote.org links directly to state sites for registering to vote, finding your polling place, as well as other important items like becoming a poll worker.

During September, members will also promote National Voter Registration Day, which is Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

Follow NASS on social media to see regular updates throughout National Voter Registration Month. Additionally, explore the association’s ongoing #TrustedInfo initiative, which emphasizes elections officials as the trustworthy sources of election information.
