NASS Post-Election Day Statement

For Immediate Release – Nov. 9, 2022 –  WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) issues the following statement regarding the post-election period on behalf of our nearly 40 Chief Election Official members:

“We would like to start by saying thank you to the millions of local election officials, poll workers, and voters throughout the nation for their participation in the 2022 general election. Their hard work, diligence and perseverance did not go unnoticed. Our democracy thrives when we all work together.

Since last night when the polls closed, election offices nationwide have been meticulously counting each eligible ballot cast. Although unofficial election night results have already been released by numerous media outlets, the numbers are subject to change following the final official counts, reviews and certifications completed by election officials. This is standard for every election, and is done in accordance with each state’s laws and procedures.

To avoid incorrect election information from unverified sources, all questions and concerns regarding post-election processes should be referred to state and local election officials. Visit NASS’s nonpartisan website
CanIVote.org to find a helpful election official directory.”
