Washington, D.C. — National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) President and Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs has appointed North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall to serve as Secretary on the NASS Executive Board, filling a vacancy in the position.
Marshall, one of the nation’s longest-serving Secretaries of State, was first elected North Carolina Secretary of State in 1996, becoming the first woman elected to a statewide executive branch office in North Carolina. During her tenure, she has overseen the modernization and expansion of services for businesses and the public. She previously served as NASS President in 2015 and has held numerous leadership roles within the association.
“Secretary Marshall brings extensive experience, institutional knowledge and a longstanding commitment to public service,” said Hobbs. “I’m grateful for her willingness to step into this role and look forward to working with her on the Executive Board.”
The NASS Executive Board serves as the association’s chief governing body. Marshall will serve as Secretary for the remainder of the 2026-2027 term.
