September is National Voter Registration Month

For Immediate Release
August 31, 2026

Washington, D.C. — The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) again recognizes September as National Voter Registration Month (NVRM). Established by NASS in 2002, NVRM highlights the importance of voter registration and participation and encourages eligible Americans to make sure they are ready to vote.

“Registering to vote is the first step in making your voice heard in our democracy,” said NASS President and Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs. “National Voter Registration Month is an important reminder for every eligible voter to register or make sure their voter registration information is accurate and up to date. And if you have questions about registering or voting, turn to your state and local election officials for accurate, trusted information.”

NASS’s nonpartisan #TrustedInfo2026 initiative directs voters to state and local election officials as the trusted sources for accurate and reliable election information. To learn more about registering to vote and the voting process in your state, visit CanIVote.org, NASS’s nonpartisan website that links directly to official state election resources.

NASS also participates in National Voter Registration Day, which is Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
