NASS Hosts State Seal Social Media Feature Throughout June

For Immediate Release
June 2, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Throughout the month of June, the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) will host a social media highlight on state seals called #SealReveal. Secretaries of State (and Lt. Governors in states without a Secretary) are usually designated by state law as the keeper of the state’s seal. This means they have custody over the seal and authorize its official use. State seals also feature important and unique visual elements of state history, industries, values and cultures.

"As keeper of Minnesota’s Great Seal, I'm happy to participate in this creative, educational effort," said Steve Simon, Minnesota Secretary of State and NASS President. "I look forward to learning about each participating NASS member’s seal and the significant symbolism behind them."

Simon is also featured in the association’s #SealReveal kick-off video here.

“It’s exciting to see NASS’s innovative approach to highlight the rich history of our states and state seals,” said Michael Watson, Mississippi Secretary of State and NASS President-Elect. “While I’m proud to spotlight the great seal of Mississippi, I am eager to learn more about the historic emblems of my colleagues from across the country.”

Each week during the month will have a theme for states to participate in:

Week 1 (June 2-6): Great Seal Introductions

Week 2 (June 9-13): History Week

Week 3 (June 16-20): The Great Seal’s Purpose

Week 4 (June 23-27): Great Seal Lore and Fun Fact

Monday, June 30: Final Day of Campaign

For real-time updates, follow the hashtag #SealReveal on NASS’s X, Facebook, and Instagram throughout the month of June.
