Election Officials to Attend Voting Rights History Tour

For Immediate Release May 6, 2019 

Washington, D.C. — 19 Secretaries of State and one Lt. Governor are participating in a voting rights history tour in Birmingham, Selma, and Montgomery, Alabama May 9-11. The event is organized by Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill and Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, with logistical and organizational support from the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS).

During the tour participants will learn first-hand from civil rights era activists and surviving family members, survey historic voting landmarks like the 16th Street Baptist Church, and cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge.
