Secretaries of State to Focus on 2012 Presidential Election Preps, State Business Creation at National Meeting

WASHINGTON, DC – The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) will elect its new slate of national officers and hold a special ceremony to honor the first-ever NASS IDEAS (Innovation, Dedication, Excellence, and Achievement in Service) Award recipient, which recognizes excellence in state member office programming and contributions to NASS.  Preparations for the November 6 presidential election and strategies for streamlining state business filing processes for economic growth will also be highlighted, along with issues related to state heritage and museums, securities, international relations, and state administrative rules.

Who:     The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) will hold its 2012 Summer Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Secretaries of State, Lieutenant Governors, Deputy Secretaries of State, senior staff, corporation/association representatives and other key leaders will convene to discuss programs and public policy issues of shared interest.  Puerto Rico Secretary of State Kenneth McClintock will give welcoming remarks.

What:    Session topics include 2012 election preparations, new election administration collaborations, The Help America Vote Act (HAVA) at 10, state civic health initiatives, protection of state systems from cyber attacks, new business filing processes that reduce bureaucracy and promote state economic growth, and state social media and Web 2.0 innovations.

When:    Saturday, July 14, 2012 through Tuesday, July 17, 2012
