NASS Hosts Assistant Attorney General Tom Perez at Winter Conference
WASHINGTON, DC – The members of the National Association of Secretaries of State, currently holding their annual winter meeting in Washington, DC, heard today from a top U.S. Justice Department official, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Tom Perez, on compliance with the MOVE Act.
“We are pleased that Mr. Perez praised the efforts of state election officials who worked to ensure compliance with the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act for the 2010 general election,” said NASS President Mark Ritchie of Minnesota. “As a result of enhanced state and federal government efforts to assist our nation’s military and overseas voters, states are reporting fewer balloting errors and more ballots cast by this group in the 2010 midterms.”
Moving forward, states are looking to expand and enhance their outreach to military and overseas voters. Many are looking to explore innovative solutions for reaching military voters through technology, with an emphasis on electronic voting pilot projects.
